Dior Spring 2012
by unconventionalgeek
Being in Australia, we have the misfortune of being one of the last few places on earth to receive any new launches. I’ve spent my lunch breaks trawling Myer and David Jones hounding sales staff for the Spring 2012 collections.
Finally, my trawling paid off. Surprisingly, not in my usual haunts!
I spend Friday evenings usually by myself in the city. A couple of drinks and a light dinner to allow me to collect my thoughts and start the weekend. With summer upon us, the days are long and weather permitting, I’m usually at my secret bar by the river having my favourite cider in the sun. It’s one of those rare moments I get to be alone by the murky Yarra with my thoughts. I guard these few moments jealously and I share them with no one. No one even knows where this secret bar is!
Friday last week was no different. A couple of ciders had calmed me down sufficiently. The light dinner of sushi and sashimi was just perfect to end the meal with.
I decided to pop by David Jones on Bourke St to check out the Spring collections. I’d not put any hopes in it at all but surprisingly, I was attended to by a very lovely sales assistant with an Irish lilt! Asking her about the Spring collection, she threw me a conspiring look and said,”Shhh… These don’t go on sale till Monday!”
Taken aback, I turned down her offer to make the purchase – I didn’t want to get her into trouble as much as I wanted to land my grubby paws onto those few items I’ve had my heart set on.
She first showed me the eye palettes with the rose motifs. Somehow, I just wasn’t taken by them at all. I passed on them and requested to view only 3 items. The Bleu de Paris eye palette, the Dior Rose Glow Awakening blush and the nail varnish in waterlily. All 3 items followed me home.
The “intelligent” blush
A very simple and short review of this is that it’s extremely pretty and extremely natural. A more detailed one with swatches to follow.
I’ve been a huge fan of Dior quints since the begining of time and this quint is no different. Many Spring releases ago, I picked up a vibrant blue palette named Myriad. It contains extremely bright and not very office-friendly colours but I was so taken in by the mermaid-feel to it, I had to get it. I use it rather sparingly and have attempted a very chic smokey eye over Benefit Strut recently. I foresee a lot more use from Bleu de Paris (pronounced with the oh-so-chic French accent). This palette is still in its pristine condition but I have very high hopes for it as I do for all Dior shadows. Swatches and detailed review to follow very shortly.
However big a fan of Dior I am, I only own 1 Dior nail varnish. Mystic Violine which was released for Fall 2008. Bought on a whim on one of my recent holidays in Malaysia, I have only regrets for this nail polish. I’d only say the quality is so questionable, I’ve not re-purchased any since then. The brush was like your typical brush. However, the quality of the polish left much to be desired. Even with Seche Vite layered on as top coat, I find tip wear in less than a day. For a nail polish of this price, I expected a whole lot more. I’m approaching Waterlily with a lot of trepidation. I’ve been convinced Dior’s reformulated the brush as well as the varnish itself so I’m willing to give this a whirl.
I can truly say I dislike the scent intensely. It’s not strong but I held my fingers near my nose for a whiff and I just couldn’t stop it even though I dislike the scent. Yes, I’m just sick that way. Nothing that can’t be fixed with a layer of Seche Vite though. Colourwise, I love it. I don’t own a colour like this and any green nail varnish is alright by my books!
Will be an exciting time as I attempt to get back onboard beauty products. It’s been a while and I do feel like I’ve lost my groove but like they all say, it can only get better from now!

I know where your haunt is. HAH!
And if you tell, I will kick you
yay you are back!! I am drooling after the Bleu de Paris…
What do you think of the other quints – Grege and Royal Khaki? I haven’t yet seen them…
I’m actually using Bleu de Paris today and I love it. The khaki green can easily be duped by a bourjois trio I bought many years ago and grege looked a little warm
I highly recommend this blue palette
