As this is getting published, I should hopefully be on my journey onto the other side of the country.
The younger sibling of geek has recently reached a significant milestone in her life and I am there for a belated celebration. Due to logistics and work commitments, I couldn’t be there but hey, better late than never?
It is also rather apt for me to feature this lip product today as part of the celebration. The Guerlain Nuit d’Amour Rouge Automatique was one of the products from the Christmas collection in 2011.
Straight off the tube, it is a shocking goth-like deep purply-red.
To be honest, I was not keen on the colour at all to begin with. However, once I’ve swatched it on once, I was sold! It’s a very deep berry colour on my lips and it’s definitely not something you would wear everyday. I would go as far as saying that it’s actually a statement lip. Wear that for an easy polished look and make a statement at the same time.
The texture, like all Guerlain lipsticks are great. Smooth and glides on easily. It doesn’t even dry the lips with long hours of wearing this. However, I’m careful enough to always prime my lips prior to wearing dark colours as such.
I must say too that I am extremely drawn to the packaging. Unlike conventional lipsticks in a tube where the cap is tugged off, this little wonder comes with a little switch (yes, I want to call it a switch) that you slide up and down. The little cover at the top of the lipstick slides in and out as you push or pull the switch. I’ve lost count of the number of times I have fun with guys on this. I merely hand the tube over and get them to figure out how to use the lipstick. Yes, I am odd that way!
I’m also a little surprised that the actual diameter or size of the lipstick has not been mentioned by anyone! I find the diameter or the thickness of the slant to be just perfect for my lips! There are certain lipsticks that are a little fuller or thicker and you tend to need to be a little careful with application. With a deep colour like this, it certainly is helpful that the diameter is a little smaller and it fits my lips perfectly without the dreaded fear of going over your natural lip line.
So with all that, do you need this? Yes if you’ve gotten pretty bold with your lip colours and you’re ready to try something different. No, if you’re a natural sort of girl and prefer a simple sheer wash of colour.
Unfortunately, this is no longer available, however, you can try and sweet talk your favourite Guerlain MUA to hunt one down for you. I, on the other hand, love this colour on cold wintry mornings against my pale skin. Just a hint of goth
The oldie but goldie discontinued Dior Addict Ultra-Shine. My thoughts here.

The colour is pretty but I love the packaging more. The slidey thingy is genius!
